As a Mexican-American who grew up along the U.S./Mexico border in the 1970s-1980s, I suffered through the stigma of homophobia, a lack of comprehensive sexual education, and the devastation that the HIV and AIDS epidemic caused in the region and throughout the nation. As an advocate for realistic sex education, supporting disadvantaged populations, and educating everyone about their right to sexual health, expression, and pleasure, I feel it is important that we understand these challenges, and others.
